The unrelenting violence of the drug war has affected everyone in the city, whether directly or through the barrage of images documenting its terror. Daily footage of murder, mutilation, and war in Ju\u00e1rez, and the rest of M\u00e9xico, has forced an intimate and immediate sense of mortality; whatever sense of meaning we had developed now has a direct relationship to our surroundings. The near-constant streaming of these images and events amplify death — an urgent, alarming, reminder that it is sudden and inevitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
